Job Summary

Walsh Duffield Retirement Plan Solutions is aligned with Strategic Retirement Partners (SRP), a leading national retirement plan consulting firm advising on over $11 billion in retirement plan assets for private and non-profit institutions. Walsh Duffield/SRP is seeking a self-starter to join its Upstate NY team. This opportunity has a focus on corporate retirement plans and consulting.

 

Walsh Duffield/SRP goes beyond just investment due diligence to provide a holistic approach to retirement plan consulting. We are focused on participant outcomes – helping plan participants to retire at the time they want, to the lifestyle they desire. Simultaneously, we advise clients to better understand and meet their fiduciary responsibilities in offering a retirement plan. The Plan Consultant is responsible for providing exceptional service to existing Walsh Duffield/SRP retirement plan sponsor clients.

Essential Functions

Company specific training will be provided.

As Plan Consultant supporting 30-50 retirement plan clients (401(k), 403(b), defined benefit and ESOP plans), working primarily with plan fiduciaries (committees and senior executives), and occasionally with groups of employees to educate them about the specific benefits of their retirement plan. Major responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Set priorities and manage service plan for clients, including working with and educating plan committee members to assure that their fiduciary responsibilities are being addressed.
  • Act as a liaison between the service providers and the plan fiduciaries to solve the myriad of challenges that need to be addressed in the day-to-day operation of a defined contribution plan.
  • Analyze the plan’s investment options, using provided tools and collaboration with the SRP Investment Committee, and provide explanation to committees so the plan fiduciaries make educated and informed decisions about which investment options to retain, add or delete from their plan lineup.
  • Prepare and present to the committee the results of benchmarking reports, which compare the existing fees, services, and investments to those offered by other providers.
  • Ongoing plan design discussions with committee members that address the goals of the plan and enhance the opportunity for employees to build successful retirement outcomes.
  • Keep informed of industry information, new product information, and technology to continuously improve knowledge and stay current.
  • Maintain cordial and positive professional relationships, providing information and guidance as needed to contribution to the business efforts of Walsh Duffield.
  • Interact with clients, retirement vendors and business contacts by effectively utilizing excellent presentation and communication skills.
  • Maintain required and additional continuing education for license and professional designations.
  • Cross train as needed.
  • Adhere to the stated expectations of the E&O Plus Quality Management Program.

Additional Responsibilities

As a Retirement Plan Consultant, major responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Assists with generating new business by leveraging existing relationships, prospecting, and conducting market analysis.
  • Determine which retirement plan features and services best meet the client’s needs and advise the client regarding the advantages and disadvantages of options.
  • Independently complete investment analysis, present reports, and make recommendations to clients and retirement plan committees based on knowledge of markets.
  • Read plan documents and provider service agreements to interpret provisions and make plan design recommendations based on plan objectives.
  • Present plan design, plan compliance, plan fees, and fiduciary education to clients and retirement plan committees. Make recommendations based on findings.
  • Direct and coordinate administrative relationship between client and retirement plan vendors, including vendor search/selection, documentation, problem resolution and leveraging available resources.
  • Educate plan participants on retirement plan provisions, investments, and success factors to groups of participants, in addition to one-on-one consultation.

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent relevant experience required
  • 4 years financial services experience preferred or exceptional, demonstrated ability to learn new information quickly. Experience with employer-sponsored retirement plans preferred.
  • 2 years of client-facing experience or demonstrable relationship building skills required
  • Series 66 or 65 licenses, or willingness to obtain during first six months.
  • Preferred designations – CPFA, AIF, C(k)P, CRPS

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Ability to understand/communicate orally and in writing with others to explain complex issues, receive and interpret complex information and respond appropriately with tact and diplomacy.
  • Ability to present complex financial, investment, ERISA and retirement planning information to clients and plan participants in a manner that is easily understood and can be applied to their own personal situation.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills. Ability to make compelling formal retirement plan education presentations to groups. Excellent telephone and email etiquette.
  • Ability to carry out complex tasks with concrete and abstract variables to produce accurate work with attention to details.
  • Ability to utilize computer systems and programs; Microsoft Office skills necessary.
  • Strong customer service focus, results-driven, team player.
  • Knowledge of retirement plan and individual retirement planning principles and procedures.
  • Knowledge of retirement plan products, usage, and markets.
  • Planning, prioritization and organizational skills. Ability to organize, multi‐task and work independently on several projects and meet multiple deadlines.
  • Skill in defining problems, collecting data, and interpreting information. Demonstrated ability to solve problems quickly and objectively.
  • Ability to be a critical and creative thinker, problem solve and make decisions under own initiative.
  • Local travel based on client support. Occasional overnight travel.
